Joseph Atlas Wallace returns to his hometown in rural Missouri (Steele) after WWI to find his life's purpose.  Happiness, tragedy, love, and adventure all await him.  Let by equal helpings of faith and superstition, Atlas discovers his path and his passion on the back roads of in the bootheel of the state.  Atlas's job as a rural letter carrier brings him into contact with most of his community and influences his belief that "there's a story behind every mailbox."  This book shares recipes, humor, and advice from folds who lived and died in a simpler time.
